5 Mistakes Every Real Estate Salesperson Makes

As a real estate salesperson you will get a lot of things right in the course of your day, but there’s also plenty of areas for improvement. You’re only human after all, but if you take onboard a few of the common mistakes every salesperson makes your career will reach new heights before you know it.

1. Focusing on NOTHING but money

Your job is to introduce every client to their dream home for a lifetime, not to generate sales at the expense of everything else. Focusing exclusively on money is a proven way to ensure you don’t get the referrals and recommendations needed to really start growing your network. Put every customer at the center of what you’re doing however, and the difference will be virtually instant.

2. Working far too late at the office

You might think that the longer and harder you work the more money you will make, and if only it were like that business would be really simple. The truth is that it’s the quality of your work that makes the difference. If you want to be able to turn your fortunes around then you need to focus on tasks that really matter, and leave the rest until tomorrow.

3. Ignoring changes in the local property market

Markets change all the time, and if you don’t keep up with them you’ll just be left behind. Clearly this isn’t what you want, so make sure you’re always up to date with what’s going on. No one will come and tell you, you’ll have to be proactive, but as someone that’s committed to becoming a Top Achiever it won’t be a problem for you.

4. Not taking the time to relax

Downtime is crucial if you want to be at your best during working hours. It’s what will allow you to really focus when your work requires it, and it’s what makes going to work worth it. You don’t want to work all the hours in the day and then just go home stressed, do you?

5. Failing to follow up and network

Following up leads and inquiries is vital if you want to be able to build a network. The chances are a single phone call or message won’t instantly clinch a sale, but 100 of them over the course of a month will build a network. That’s the mindset of a Top Achiever, and it really does work.
